DISTURBANCES AT CALUMET. NEW YORK, October 24
The strike disturbance at Calumet (Michigan), which have kept the district in a fermmt for a year, have been, resumed* There have been frequent riots and fights with the militia, resulting in the arrest *of 200 miners on charges of illegal picketing. It is now considered likely that the backbone of the strike disorders has been broken. SERIOUS TROUBLE IN COLORADO. TRINIDAD (Colorado), October 25. The strike war throughout the district is still uiveuppressed, despite the activity of the authorities. The strikers stopped a train near Walsonburgh, and captured a machine gun belonging to the mine owners.. A battle followed, and one striker was killed, while 12 were wounded. The machine gun, however, disappeared during the melee, and later the strikers used it to bombard a searchlight at the mine. The conditions resemble those prevailing in actual warfare. TEMPORARY SETTLEMENT. I MELBOURNE, October 22. The sheep slaughtermen have resumed work at the old rate of wages, pending an Arbitration Court award.
