A NARROW ESCAPE
LONDON, April 27. A Marconigram which has been received in Liverpool states that while the Empress of Britain was crossing the Grand Bank* in a ■ dense fog, 240 miles eastward ol where the Titanic came to grief, an ice* berg was sighted a-head. The engines were reversed, and th* ship swung off, barely escaping There were icebergs in all directions. The vessel proceeded to Halifax instead of Montreal. The Empress of Britain, which is a vessel of 14,189 tons, was built at Glasgowin 1906, and is owned by the Canadian’ Pacific Railway Company. She is 548 ft in length, 65ft in breadth, and 36f.t in depth.
