AN ISLAND TRAGEDY
SYDNEY, April 24. The mails from the New Hebrides report the brutal murder of Mr Turier and his wife on the Maskelyne Islands, near Malelcula. Mr Turier was manager of the Lanour Station, and both he and his wife were shot by the Lauvur natives as they were sitting at dinner. Mrs Turier was hit with a bullet in the back of the head as she was holding the soup tureen in the act of placing it on the table. Mr Turier, who was silting at the table, received a bullet in his chest and another in his arm, shattering the limb. It is supposed the murders are by way of vengeance for th© illegal recruiting d£ natives by some whites in the nast. r. - j 6
