DEFENCE OF CANADA
THE NAVAL POLICY. OTTAWA, April 7. The Quebec Chronicle states that it has been decided to treat the question of naval defence on non-party lines. Tenders are immediately to be called for two superDreadnought cruisers. Meanwhile Canada will represent to Great Britin that the Dominion's naval autonomy is essential, and that her representation is imperative. This can be met only by the creation of an Imperial squadron whereto Great Britain and the Dominions contribute, to be controlled by a special Admiralty Board, whereon the contributors shall be represented. The paper points out that Canada's interest as a nation demands that ehe, in the same way as America and the South American States, shall be able to show her flag on such occasions as naval visits, which play a part so important in improving trade relations with other countries. Canadian-manned ships should protect her interests throughout the world.
