COMMERCIAL TRAVELLERS

ANN UA L (ON I- EREN CE. MR M'PHEBSON ELECTED PRESIDENT. LAUNCESTON, April 8. At the annual conference of the United Commercial Travellers' Association the discussion on the association's position in New Zealand resulted in the carrying of a resolution that a reciprocal arrangement in regard to the entree to clubs be arranged in the hope that it may result in a closer bond of union. Another resolution adopted was that as the licensing laws were different in different States, but all tending to reduce the number of hotels, to the detriment of tlie comfort and convenience of the travelling public, the conference recommends that its official organ, the Australasian Traveller, mike a stand through its columns against any further reduction in the number of hotels. In the course of the discussion the New Zealand delegates, Mr D. M'Pherson and Mr Mitchell, reported that there had been a marked influence for the worse in reference to the accommodation provided for the travelling public. The position, they thought, might improve as conditions adjusted themselves, but the present inconvenience was very serious. Mr M'Pherson, president of the Dunedin Commercial Travellers' Association, was elected president of the United Association for the ensuing year, and the next conference was fixed to be field at Dunedin next Easter.
