ASSISTED EMIGRATION
BRISBANE, April 3. The Queensland Government has stopped its system of assisting immigrants, owing to the exhaustion of the vote set apart for the purpose. It is also considerably restricting the nominated system. One thousand intending passengers have been refused. SYDNEY, April 3. The Government has decided upon a new immigration policy. It will carefully examine those offering before granting assisted passages, and it will give preference to those for whom definite occupations can be found. Arrangements will be made whereby mistresses can pay the passage money for domestic servants.
