The Lake County Council submitted proposals for ithe expenditure of "thirds," etc.,„for period 1/11/10 to 31/10/11, £3O 16s lOd; the Stewart Island County Council submit proposals for the expenditure ol "thirds" amounting to £2 2s 9d for period 1/8/11 to 31/10/11. —Applications approved, and receiver authorised to pay over tbe amounts. David Houston applied, under section--237 of " The Land Act, 1908," for permission to surface-sow 400 acres of pastoral run 534, Taringat ira district.—Recommended for approval of the Minister of Lands. . Elizabeth Cameron offered 10s per annum for a grazing right over part section 20, block 11, Wendonside district, 2 acres 3 roods 19 poles.—Granted, subject to mining regulations. David Neil offered 5s per annum for a grazing right over sections 69-75 and 82-5, Edendale Township, 2 acres 3 roods.— Granted, subject to gravel not being removed. Leonard Cross applied for an area of one rood 20 poles, situated between section 47, block 11. Longwood, and the Shale Company's tramway. —Granted at 5s per annum. * Ellen Mason applied for a grazing right over 100 acres in block X, Longwood district. —Ranger Cameron valued grazing at 20s per annum, —Granted. T. Aylward applied for a grazing right over 60 acres in block X, Longwood.— Ranger Cameron valued grazing at 20s per annum.—Granted.

The Southland County Council requested that the reserve of 31 acres 16 poles north, of section 513, Hokonui district, he vested in the council. —Ranger to report. P. P. Watkins requested permission to build on section 8 of 30, block XVI, Gore Town, and forwarded plan and specifications.—Approved. . Patrick Maher applied for a year-to-year license over eight acres two roods, situated at the north-east corner of section 9, block 11, Wendonside district. —Ranger to report. Thomas Ayson applied under section 142 of “ The Land Act. 1908,” for an exchange of the old river bed fronting section 9, Oteramika Hundred, for land over which the river now flows. George Clark applied to purchase about two and a-half acres of Crown lands situated at the north-east corner of section 9, Oteramika Hundred. — Commissioner and Mr J. King to inspect. Catherine Neilson applied for a grazing right over 50 acres in block VII, Longwood district. Ranger Cameron valued grazing at 20s per annum.—Granted. Geo. Ward intimated that he considered the price fixed for section 45, block VII, Waikaka district —viz: £7, unreasonable, and declined to pay the same. —To be offered for sale for cash by auction _at a price to bo fixed by the Commissioner, and weighted with £4 survey fee. The Commissioner submitted correspondence relative to section 31a, block TV, Aparima Hundred, and r educated authority to deal with the section. —To be offered for sale for cash by auction at £2 5s per acre, three months’ notice to be,given.—Southland News., COMMERCIAL CABLEGRAMSLONDON, December 19. Wheat: Two Australian cargoes and 15,000 quarters by sailer, January and February shipment, sold at 365, and a cargo and 13,000 quarters of Victorian, December shipment, at 36s 3d December 20. At the tallow sales 846 casks wore offered and 460 sold. Mutton—Fine 375, medium 33s 6d; beef—-Fine 34s 9d, medium 52s 6d. December 22. The Bank of England returns show the stock of gold coin and bullion to be £33,196,000 ; reserve, £23,304,000 ; proportion of reserve to liabilities, 41.56. The notes in circulation total £29,286,000 ; public deposits, £15,207,000; other deposits, £40,104,000; Government securities, £15,271,000; and other securities, £35,219,000. The bank rate of discount is 4 per cent. Short loans are discounted at 5| per cent., and three months’ bills as follows.—London, 3| per cent. ; Paris, per cent.; and Berlin, 4| per cent. Consols are quoted at £77. The following are the quotations for colonial Government stocks, compared with those ruling a week previous: ’

The Bradford wool market is quiet and unchanged. The wheat markets are quiet. Better weather in the Argentine has induced more disposition to sell. For an Australian January-February shipment 56s 4£d was asked, and 36s 6d for November, while 35s 3d was paid for parcels of January-February shipment. There is little inquiry for Australian spot at 37s 6d. Flour: Quiet and unchanged. Oats: Firm. La Plata, January shipment, 16s 10id. Beans: Firm and unchanged. Butter: Warm, damp weather and heavy arrivals of colonial are slightly depressing the market. Danish, 135 sto 1365. Choicest Australian, 124 sto 126 s ; secondary, 118 s to 120 s. Choicest New Zealand, 128 s to 130 s ; unsalted occasionally 131 s. * Cheese: Firm. New Zealand, 69s to 70s. December 24. Copper: Spot, £63; three' months, £63 17s 6d; electrolytic, £66 ss. Tin : Spot, £204 10s; three months, £l9l. Copra is in good demand. South Sea, in bags, £23 15s. Cotton, Deoember-January shipment, 4.90 Rubber, 4s 4d. Basils are firm. First New Zealand, Is 6d. Hides are neglected. Rabbits are quiet, and pricea are unchanged. Sheep : Canterbury—Light, Island —Ordinary, 4d. Lambs: Canterbury—Light, sid; medium, sgd; heavy, 4|d. Australian Sheep : Heavy, 3id. Lambs : Best brands, 4|d ; fair quality, 4^d; inferior quality, 4d, South American ewes, 3gd.

Beef: Chilled fores, other quotations unchanged. Silver is quote at 25gd per ounce. December 24. Silver is quoted at 25 l-16d per ounce. The hemp market is active. JanuaryMarch shipment, £2l. Jute: December-January shipment, £l9 15s. SYDNEY, December 19. Wheat is easier, and is quoted £d lower. The Government Statist's latest estimate of the wheat yield is 23,372,000 bushels—an average of 10.31 bushels per acre.
