Confirmation has been received of the Oceanic Steamship Company's intention to resume the San Francisco-Sydney service, via Honolulu, leaving New Zealand out.
The Federal Postmaster-general has been notified of the Ooeanic Company's proposals, which are arousing keen interest in commercial circles.

Captain Sproul, the representative of the Oceanic Company, was interviewed to-day in reference to the resumption of the San Francisco-Sydney service. He stated that the company's steamer's Ventura, Sierra, and Sonoma were being reconstructed at a cost of 1,000,000d01, with a view to starting the service. The company proposes to ask the Federal Government for a subsidy of £ISOO per trip on the basis of 12 trips per year. The steamers .will have a guaranteed speed of 17 knots an hour, and will make the trip from San Francisco to Sydney in 20 days. The company will also guarantee is in 30 days.
