MURDERS IN NEW GUINEA
SYDNEY, October 20.
Island news states that the Government punitive expedition haa returned to Port Moresby from Central Papua with a number of native prisoners who aro charged with the m-u-rder of the men from the Muruitai. The villagers, it seems, had invited the Karuema tribesmen to dance, when the visitors, discovering that all but two Muruitai men were absent, killed these two, and then massacred the women and children and wiped out the village. They afterwards feasted on the bodies of the victims, and departed, taking much loot The punitive expedition had much difficulty in capturing the murderers.
