EIGHT-HOUR DAY

SYDNEY, October 2. The Eight Hours' demonstration and sports were highly successful. Over 70 unions participated in the procession through the streets, and there.were many fine banners and spectacular trade displays. Enormous crowds lined the route and the Agricultural Grounds, where the sports were held. At the Eight Hours' Day sports the 220yds Handicap was won by Morris. Trembath( Byds) was beaten in his heat by Holland, off the 17yds mark. The Half-mile Handicap was annexed by M'Lachlan (the New Zealand middledistance runner), off the 20yds mark. The Amateur Mile Cycling Championship of New South Wales was won by Catcliffe in 2min 26 4-ssec. Grenda (Tasmania), the scratch man, won the Eight Hour Wheel Race in 4min 41 l-ssec.
