OTAGO LAND BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Otago Land Board was commenced on the 13th ; present the Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr E. H. Wilmot), Mr D. Barron, and Mr J. A. Macpherson. Ormond Hughes applied for a license to occupy section 12. Block VII, Blackstone district, gravel reserve. —Yearly license granted at £1 per annum. .William White applied to purchase his residence site and reservoir site on S.G Run 2360, Tarras district—Board could nor sell, as the land was national endowment. A E. Wilde wrote .stating that he did not wish to retain his license over 5 ac'res adjoining section 128. Block V, Waitahuna East district, the area having been taken up as a mining claim.—License to lapse at the expiry of the present term. Ranger O'Neill reported on the application by Henry Brough for the river- reserve fronting sections 12. 15, 17. and 1 8. Block VIII. Catlins district.—Referred to Countv Council to ascertain if there was anv objection. Ranger O'Neill reported on the application by F. J. Slater for a license to occupy the unoccupied part of Ratanui Township. —Report adopted, and license granted. Ranger O'Neill reported on lbe application by the Public Hall Committee, Port Molyneux, for a title over the area on which the hall stands. —Referred to the County Council to ascertain if there was any objection. Samuel Trusler applied for leave to cultivate the urea held by him under license l-. 0. 1366, block X, Waipa-hi district. —Permission granted, en condition that the area ■was sown down in grass. Won. Groves applied for a iicense to cut the flax on sections 28 and 29. block VI, Akatore district. —Referred to ranger* for report as to dealing with the iand. The same course was followed with section 29, block VI. Akatore district, -.recently held under coal lease by Anthony Young. Ranger Atkinson reported that Mrs A. Frater, holder of occupation lease oyer section 90. block IX. Maruwenua district. wa<s not complying with the residence condition of her lease. —Lessee to be called on to show cause why lease should not be forfeited.

The same course was taken with respect to Mrs Mary Evans, holder of occupation lease over -sections 27 and 29, block X. Maruwenua district.

Francis wrote with reference to the rem of the license granted him over area in block IX. Town of .Vaseby.— Reduction of rent declined.

J. M. Goulding, lessee of section 51a Obekaike Settlement, was granted exemption from residence until December 31 next.

Sarah Rodgers applied for exemption from residence on sections 24, block IV, and 3. block VII. TuajKika West district, held by her under LLP. 1435 and 1436 Granted during pleasure of board. A letter from Brodrick and Chalmer with reference to the application by T. D. Anderson and W. A. Bovett for an O.R.P. license over section 5. block 11, Lfifwieir Wanaka district, was held over till the Classification Commissioners should visit the ground. Ranger O'Neill reported on the application by Robert M'Lood for a yearly Jicens* over part of the mining reserve in block I, Waitalnma West district. —License granted as suggested by ranger. Sarah Drain applied for a license lo occupy about 3 acres of the mining reserve in block I, Waitahnna West district.—Held over for report from ranger. MJi-s A. E. Clarke wrote with reference to the License held by her over sections 6 and 7. block IX, Tautuku district, and asked that she be allowed the use of the sections until the end ei May next. —Application declined Applications for areas on Moutere Run by Sophia Lewis (450 acres) and James M'Arthur, jun. (162 acres) were held over till the survey of land was put in hand. Applications for areas on Elliott's Mount Benger Run by D. G. Gunn (360 acres), Charles Dougherty (1400 acres), and R. M. Smith (200 acres) were held over till the commissioner gees over the ground with the surveyor. Samuel Purvis applied for permission to plough up and put down in grass portion of the Jand held by him under license No. 1879, Baxnego Settlement.—Consented to.

Ranger O'Neill reported on the applies tion by R- Johnstone to purchase his resi dence area on Run No. 224 j, Blaokstom district. —Application to purchase declined | applicant to be informed that if the pro sent title is surrendered «t the termination of the present run lease the area will be included in the run when re-offered to him. Ranger O'Neill reported on the application by Mrs L. A. Phillips for a better title over the area she held under licenso in block I, Otokia district.—Area to be granted under section 129 of the act. Ranger O'Neill reported on the applications by H. A. Simes, Thomas Sheppard, and A. G. Glassford for section 37, block VI, Lauder distriot.—Held over.

Ranger O'Neill reported on the application of William Annan for an area of about 8 acres," adjoining his present occupation lease in block XI, Leaning Rock district.—To be granted a renewable lease over an area not exceeding 8 acres of a capital value of £1 per acre. John Lothian applied for an occupation, lease over about 50 acres, part section 6, block XIV, Maniototo district.—Granted, subject to Dr Martin's water rights being reserved; capital value £2.per acre. James Cairns applied for a grazing license over about 5 acres round his resdy dence, Mining Reserve, at Matakanui.— > Declined.

Ranger Atkinson reported on the improvements effected by Mrs M. Kinloch on section 35a, Kauroo Hill Settlement.— Withdrawn, as record by ranger in his port is sufficient. Alexander Truesdale wrote with reference to the area of sootion 41, block VI, Lauder district, recently granted hint under renewable lease. —Board adhered to the boundaries as at present laid off. J George E. Dickie applied for an area of about 40 acres, part of Run 221 d, adjoining his present holding, section 162, block 11, Leading Rock district. —To be granted the area appled for, and that par* of section 162, now fenced in, on condition that he surrenders his lease over 162; grant to be subject to warden's report and survey. W. Waide applied for Quarry Reserve, section 9, Block XII, Tarras district.— Declined. ■ ■ A John Baxter applied for a license to •occupy the reserve fronting section 4a, Duncan Settlement. Yearly license granted; rent 10s. F. A. Haig wrote further with reference to license to occupy section 10, M° c k VII. Blaekstone district, offered him a* rental of 15s j>er annum. —Rent to be 10* per annum. J. Pearson, secretary Havelock Mining Reserve Committee, wrote stating that the following persons had resigned from the committee:—John Cowan, Robert York, 1 and M. Ryan; and that the following had been appointed : Andrew Wightman, Frank Whelan, and John Pearson.—Names of persons mentioned approved. Duncan and MacGregor. on behalf of James Henderson, applied for a license to occupy the reserve fronting sections 18 tor 23, block VII, town of Kelso.—Ranger to report. The board was requested to consider the question of dealing with the land in blocks XI, Lower Wanaka district, V, VI, VII, Lower Hawea district, and VII, Tarras district, at present held under license by John Kane.—Held over for inspection by_ the Classification Commissioners; Range*M'Dougall to report in meantime.
