BUSINESS OF PARLIAMENT.
STATEMENT OF PROGRESS'. (FEOM Gu* OWW CORRESPONDENT.) WELLINGTON. Seotember 19
li ie generally expected that more rapid progress will be made 'this week in connection with the business of the session. The Estimates are almost certain to come on again for consideration on Friday. The Gaming Bill is not now expected to make ite appearance for some days. As to what it will contain there ie naturally a good deal of sacculation in the lobbies.
In view of a promise made by the Prime Minister during the recess, and notwithstanding the decisions of the House on the resolutions submitted to it, some weeks ago. it ie believed in some quarters that will be proposed as to whether both tiie bookmaker and the totalizator shall remain.
The Land Bill has not yet come up for consideration at the hands of the Lands Committee, which consists of Messrs Anderson, Hon. Puncan. Ell, Forbes, Guthrie, Hogg, Lang, Lawry,
Witty, and the Prime Minister. Only two small local bills stand higher than the Land Bill on the committees' Order Paper. It is generally understood that the discussion of the measure at the hands of the committee will last about three weeks.
With a view of obviating some of the defect* which have been found in the Public Debt Extinction Bill, several amendments are to be introduced by Governor's message.
