LAND VALUATIONS
LONDON, September 14.
Mr Lloyd George discussed with leading surveyors, estate, agents, and other experts the alleged difficulties in replying to questions respecting the new land valuations. The Chancellor of the Exchequer maintained that the questions were perfectly intelligible. September 15.
Mr Lloyd George emphasises the statement that two-thirds of the questions criticised the land valuation forms—those addressed by the occupiers of real property during the last 60 years.. One million and a-half small land-owners had already filled in the returns. The forms that had not been returned concerned large properties where delays were granted without difficulty. Regarding the trouble and expense of obtaining some information, Mr Lloyd George remarked that an owner was bound to answer only what he knew, and was not bound to express an opinion on intricate legal points, such as right-of-way. Mr Lloyd George concluded by promising to consider safeguards relating to claims for deductions.
