OUTBREAK OF SMALLPOX

PERTH, May 24. The charge against. Dr Bowkett, of the Otway, for failing to detect a case of smallpox on that vessel was continued to-day. Dr Bowkett, in his evidence, stated that he had never seen a case of smallpox before the case of the boy on the ship. He explained his reasons for regarding the case as one of sun fever. The case was further adjourned. May 25. Dr Bowkett has been committed for trial on the charge arising out of his failure to detect a case of smallpox on the Otway.
