FEDERAL INDUSTRIES ACT

SYDNEY, May 26. Writs have been issued against certain coal and shipping companies charging them with breaches of the Australian Industries Act. The writs are three in number. The first is against the Coal Vend and Shipping Combine and the firms forming them for offences against the Anti-Trust Act in connection with their control of the trade in coal. The second is against the Coal Vend and the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand in connection with the joint control of the coal trade between Newcastle, New Zealand, and Tasmania, and in connection with shipping between New Zealand and Tasmania. The third writ is against the Coal Vend in connection with persons at London and elsewhere and their control of the foreign coal trade. . The suits are brought in the High Court. The writs are returnable in, from 14 to 28 days. Huddart. Parker, and Co. are among the defendants in the first writ.
