NICKEL DEPOSITS

OTTAWA, January 20. Mr Arthur Wilson, who, on behalf of the Imperial Government, has been investigating Canada's nickel resource*, addressing the Mines and Mineral Committee in the Dominion House of Commons, said that Canada po&sesoed three-fifths of ■the world's store of nickel. The balance was in New Caledonia The American Trust and International Nickel Company of New York controlled these areas. He strongly urged Canada to assume control of the'country's nickel resources for the benefit of the Dominion and Empire Owing to the trust's control, the price, was so high that only Governments were able k> buy the mineral. Tens of millions of tons in Canada were unexploited because the trust' did not wish to work them yet. It was a matter of Imperial urgency. The Government should assume the nickel deposits, which would ensure to Great Britain an enormous advantage over all other countries in connection with the' construction of battleships. The committee decided to investigate the operations of the trust.
