A NEW COMET

JOHANNESBURG, January 19

A bright comet was seen at Johannesburg at sunrise on Monday. It was five degrees S.S.W. of the sun and was still visible after sunrise. It was moving eastward four degrees daily, and northward two and a-half degrees daily. LONDON, January 20. Cambridge Observatory has observed the Johannesburg comet. It has a nucleus equal to Mercury, and its tail of Wo degrees is visible to the naked eye. January 24. The new comet is plainly seen in many parts of England, Southern Europe, and Egypt. The Cambridge Observatory states that it passed its perihelion on the 17th inst. two million miles from the sun. The tail is six degrees long, and is curved to the east.
