When all the connecting rods are recovered they will be annealed and the metal softened. So far 180 ft of rods haVe been hoisted out, and a.bout 150 ft with the bucket remain in the pipes. The treating of the rods will be carried out as cxpoditiou«ly as possible, but it is feared that three weeks will elapse before th.' work cau bo resumed in the adjoining mines. Tho immediate effect of tins wa,s 10 cause May Queen sharea to drop fiom 4s 6d to 3s 6d, but, later sales were made up to 3s lOd. j
