NEW ALPINE MINE. (From Our Own Correspondent.)
GREYMOUTH, October 20.
In a circular to the share holders of the New Alpino Mine it is stated that re- ' ports have been received from the manager of a new make of payable stone in ' No. 14 level going north. The size of the reef has increased from about 12in when first struck to about 2ft 3in. By the laet j report the values by assay are 7dwt to 15dwt per ton. Mr Stewart states it to be the nioest-lookmg sron« he kaa se*n in this level. It is be:ng driven upon J as rapidly as possible. The reef in the ; routh stopes has pinched a little, but this ! may bo only tempoiary. The new develop- j in-ent in tho level north is most important, ! and although insufficient has yet been done j i to build upon it, yet ite occurrence is I very encouraging and indicates that gcod ! results may be anticipated from The iur- , thsr northern extension of the JNo. 14 i 6V€ October 2.1 ' The New Alnine mine managers' report for the week ended 19th mst. :— " The drive ' s-oiro- nortb "was -xtended 17ft for the week, making the total north 245 ft from the crosscut. The new make of stone re- . cently rut has nearly pinched out. . The ! la3t "sample put through at 233 ft north j assayed Isdwt 17gr for an average of 15in S in width. There is still a good track, and ' the stone is on the hanging wall. In the south stopes at No. 8 we have got to the ! enl of stone at 67ft south, and in the , middb of the winze in No. 9 stope there j ' are two splices of stone, with a small i < beam of soft mullock between. The hang- | . ing wall splice is 2ft 4in, assaying loz 17|dwt, and the foot.vall splioe is lft Sin 'in width, assaying 12dwt. Seventy-nine tons were paddocked for the week. All the leakages in water pipes have not <laken up yet. The new pump has been delivered at the mine, and is being placed at No. 14. The old pump at No. 12 is , now working splendidly. A new stoping drill has been ordered, and should be a i good investment, as the same will do for i rising as well as for stoping."
