FLORAL FETE.
AUCKLAND, December 7.
A heavy downpour of rain last night did an immense amount of good to the country, but had serious results on the floral fete promoted on behalf of the funds of the Ladies' Benevolent Society, which is in very low water. The fete took place at Ellerslie, despite the unfavourable conditions. A great deal of interest was taken in the baby show. Over 100 entries were received, ;ind much excitement prevailed among the . mothers. Som^ remarkable weight records were established, one of the best being that of Arthur Thode. who, though only 11 months old, turned the scale at 371b lOoz. ! There wero several different classes in the 1 baby show, including those for the heaviest and prettiest boys and girk under one and two years. Out of 50 babies weighed, the heaviest girl was Sybil Mackay (291b). The fete realised about £150, instead of the £500 aimed at. Two theatre benefit performj Hiices are being arranged in consequence.
