CHRISTCHURCH GRAIN MARKET.
CHRISTCHURCH, February 15. There has been a considerab'e amount of business done in wheat during the week at the all-round price of 3s at handy country stations, a little more money having been paid for Hunters of not quite such good quality and at more distant stations. The wheat offering is in sound condition and colour, and the bulk is of prime milling qualify. Sales amounting to 7400 bushels of Hunters, 4800 bushels of pearl, and 6300 bushels of Tuscan at 3s at near stations are reported, and also '
of 1300 bushels of Hunters at 2s lOd to 2s lid. Oats are still being held firmly by growers, and in order to fill their requirements local buyers have had to make 6. sharp advance in prices. Prime milling are now worth 23 5d and 2s 6d, and feed Is 3d to 2s 4d at country stations. Among the sales reported are 5700 bushels of prime milling G-artons at 2s 6d, and 3000 bushels of prime duns at 2g 6d at near stations. The price of oatmeal has been raised locally from £13 to £14 10s per ton. The bulk of the prime malting barley offering this season has apparently changed hacda, and what samples ar© now coming forward are more or less light. They are worth from 3s> to 4s. A line of 575 bushels has been taken at 4s 4d, and another of 2400 bushels at 4s. There is a fair inquiry from the North Island for ryegrass for early autumn sowing, and theie is a ready sale' far any ryegrass and cocksfoot offering where the price can be agreed upon. A fairly large line of cocksfoot, 131b seed, extra clean and bright, has been purchased at 4d per lb.
