GRAIN AND PRODUCE REPORTS.
Messrs Dalgety and Co. report as follows- — We held our usual weekly auction sale of grain and produce at our stores on Monday, when we submitted a large catalogue consisting of oats, wheat, potatoes, and chaff, r>ut up in lots -to suit intending purchasers 1 A fair attendance of buyers were present, but competition again lacked animation, and a large portion of the catalogue had to ba passed in ponding private sale. Values ruled as under — Oats —The firmness in this market reported in our lest continues. New season's samples are not yet available, and old stocks are now almost exhausted. Consignments arriving are resdily taken up for local requirements. Quotations: Prime milling, 2s s}d to 2s 6id ; good to best feed. 2s 4d to 2s sd; medium and inferior, 2s to 2s 3d per bushel (sacks extra.). Wheat.— During the past week samples of northern new season's wheat have been offering mo * freely Millers, however, are not keenly d.sposed to operate to any great extent at prices lately asiced by holders. Fowl wheat is still in request, and is readily quitted I at late rates Quotations- Prime milling, 3s 4d to 3s 4Jd ; medium milling, as fowl wheat, 3s 3d to 3s 4d ; broken and damaged, 3s to 3s 2d per bushel (sacks extra). Potatoes.— The market is fully supplied with both local and imported potatoes, and prices in consequence show a decline on late quotations. Quotations • Prime table sorts to £7 ; medium to good. £6 to £6 10s; small and inferior, £4 upwards per ton (bags in). I Chaff. — The market is fully supplied, and i values are a good deal easier than when we 1 last reported. Quotations: Prime oaten sheaf, £4 109 to £5 , extra well cut and heavy to £5 2s 6d; medium and inferior, £4 to £4 12s 6d. , Donald Reid and Co (Ltd) report:— We held our weekly auction sale of grain and i produce at our stores on Monday. Values ruled as under — Oats. — The quantity on offer is extremely small, very few samples of new oats having so far come forward. Current prices are somewhat above shippers' limits, and nearly a1!a 1 ! oats being sold are taken for local consumption. All sorts have good inquiry. Quotations • Prime milling and best feed. 2s 5d to 2s 6d ; medium, 2a 3d to 2s 4d ; inferior and damaged, 2a to 2s 3d per bushel (sacks extra). Wheat. — Locally grown wheat is now offering more freely, and, being threshed in prime condition, has ready sale on arrival. Medium milling lines are not in demand with millers, but have a ready outlet as fowl wheat, which 1 is in somewhat short supply. Quotations : I Prime milling, 3s 4d to 3a 4|d ; wliole fowl ! wheat, 3s 3d to 3s 4d ; broken and damaged, 3s to 3s 2d per bushel (sacks extra). Potatoes. — Supplies are more plentiful, and only prime freshly dug lots are readily dealt with. These are selling at £6 15s to £7 ss ; while stale and inferior lots are not easily quitted at £5 to £6 10s per ton (according to quality. Chaff. — Consignments have been coming forward freely during the past week, and in view of the quantity on offer it has been irupo=sible to maintain late values. The demand is still confined for the most part to prime oat-en sheaf. Quotations • Best oaten sheaf, £4 15s to £5 ; choice to £5 2s 6d ; inferior to medium, £4 to £4 10s per ton fiags extra). Straw — This is extremely scarce, and. with keen demand, has ready sale on arrival. Quotations- Oaten, 50s; wheaten, 40s to 45s per ton (pressed).
