TAIERI POULTRY SHOW.

Office - bearers. — Patrons — Messrs D. T. Shand, E. Green, W. Knott, J. M'Kinnon, James Findlay, R. Charters, W. Blackie, J. Gow, A. M'Lecd, D. Reid, M.H.R., Rev. A. W. Kinmont, Mrs O'Kane; president, Mr W. Tvirkland; vice-presidents — Messrs A. Grant, R. Prebble, G. Spears, P. Sinclair; committee — Messrs R. Prebble, A. Quelch, W. Craig, J. Fleming, P. Sinclair, C. Grant, A. Grant, W. Gibson, W. Tufnbull, J. Smeaton, J. Hicks, R. Renton. F. Stoddart, R. Smeaton, S. Turnbull, J. Gilmour, A. Burrett, A. Bremner, T. Gilbert; treasurer, MX P. C. Sinclair . secretary, Mr G. B. Burns. The entries for the Taieri Poultry, Pigeon, and Cage Bird Society's seventeenth annual show, which was held in the Volunteer Hall, Mosgiel, on Saturday, were slightly in exoess of those of former years, and the quality of the exhibits generally wa^ up to previous standards. In the poultry section Hamburgs were represented by two entries, Messrs Moreland Bros, securing firsb honours for a golden pencilled cock and hen. Plymouth Rocks were only slightly better represented than the previous class, but here the entries only totalled four, the Alexandra- Poultry Company securing first for a white cock, and Mr D. T. Shand was awarded first for a white pullet (the best bird exhibited in tbe Plymouth Rock pens). The Minorcas, taken as a whole, were a strong class numerically and also in point of quality, and the cockerel exhibited by Mr F. Stod^ dart, which secured first honours, was declared by the judge (Mr J. T. Taylor, ofi Milton) to be the best bird shown in the class for years. Leghorns were more numerously represented than Minorca-s, but) as a class there was nothing amongst them to call for special mention, and the same remark as to quality applies to Langshans. Wyandottes (silver and golden) were represented by 44 exhibits, the silver pullets being an especially good class, and the golden varieties made a very good display ;] but Orpingtons, especially the buff class, showed a considerable falling-off, and no game birds w^re exhibited. Ducks were not strong numerically, but the exhibit of Indian Runners — a drake by Mr R. Prebbla an 1 a duck by Mr A. E. Wright — assisted, by their quality, to take off some of the bareness of these pens. Geese and turkeys were conspicuous by their absence. The selling aud novice classes were well represented, and th-e show of pigeons was a fairly good one. Children's pets included a miscellaneous collection of cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, doves, bantams, and cage birds, and these came in for a good share of public, attention. The entries in home-made cakes, scones, etc., were not numerous. Mr Palmer, of Timaru, who was appointed to judge the- open poultry section, was unable to be present, and Mr" J. T. Taylor kindly undertook the duty. Mr John Rankin judged the novice class (including poultry) and children's pets, and Miss Charters judged the cakes and scones., Tho following is the pme-list: —
