Messrs Stronach, Morris, aud Co. report as follows: — We held. our fortnightly sale of hides at our stores, Crawford street, on Thursday, 15th June, when there was an average attendance of buyers. Our catalogue comprised 235, and competition was very keen, especially for prime Btout ox and light weights. Medium weight hides were, however, a shade easier, and may be quoted lower by Jd to Jd. Included in our catalogue were several lines of prime stout ox, and these sold remarkably ■well, our top price being 6|d for three weighing 751b. We also obtained 6gd for one weighing 831b, 6d for on© 871b, and 5Jd for several other lines. In cow hides our top price was 4gd, which we obtained for several lote. In anoney value our top price for ox was £2 7s, and for cows £1 15s 9d. M«ssrs Wright Stsphenson, and Co. report as follows: — Our usual fortnightly sale "was iheld on Thursday, the 15th inst., at our Maclaggan street stores, when we offered to a full muster of the trade a small catalogue comprised of 85 ox and 28 cow hides, 2 yearlings, and 11 calfskins. Among our offerings were Borne- hides of splendid substance, heavy and ■well flayed, and whenever lots of this deecription were" before the buyers competition was very keen at prices considerably higher jthan those lately ruling. For lines of both ox and cow of medium quality or badly-flayed bidding dragged, and values for these were much the sam* as at late sales. We would point cut to clienbs the importance of having Slides well flayed, as buyers take this into consideration to a large extent when fixing their values. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) report holding their usual fortnightly sale at their stores, Lower Rattray street, on Thursday, when they offeied a large catalogue to the tisual represent ative gathering of buyers. Competition was brisk, but prices did not appear quite so buoyant as those that have been ruling of _ late. The keenest competition was for medium-weight cow hides of good spread; and, while things were not quite so lively as a month ago", good values were obtained ior all well-flayed and dried lots. Prices for extra heavy and also light-weight ox and cow hides were ruling on a par with those paid at the last sales here, but medium weights sold slightly in sellers' favour; sloppy and damaged hides were also slightly lower. There- was the usual attendance ot buyers, who operated with great keenness, the result being that we cleared our catalogue at exceptionally fine prices. We offered in all 308 hides and calfskins, and of this number 189 were ox hides, of which we placed no less than 118 at from 5d to 7Jd per lb. topping the market with the latter price. The following were ovir best prices : — One ox, 7£d ; two do, 61d; seven do, 63d; three do, 6|d ; eight do, 6Jd; two do, 6d ; nine do, 53d; 12 do. s|d; 24 do, s|d; 11 <Jo, Bid ; 15 do, s|d; —15 do, 5Jd ; nine do. s|d; two do, sd. In money value two brought 43s Id, two 42s 2d, three 41s sd, two 395, two 38s 3d, six 36s sd; 10 34s Bd, and a large number from 27s 6d to 33s each.
