MOERAKI
A very pleasing function took place at Moeraki Station en Saturday evening last, when the employees on tlie estate assembled at the manager's residence to bid farewell to Mr Thomas Macaulay and family on the eve of his departure to fake up the position of manager of the Land Company's Clydevala Estate. The function took the form of a. presentation of a very handsome solid silver tray, suitably inscribed. Mr G. Gould, in making the presentation, referred to the long time — some 25 years— Mr Macaulay had been with them as manager, and to the good feeling that had always existed between the employer and the employees. On behalf of himself and fellow-workmen, he wished Mr Macaulay and family every success in their new home, and expressed the hopa that at some future time they might have their old manager back again. Mr Macaulay, in a very appropriate speech, thanked them for their beautiful present and their expressions of good wishes to himself and family, and said: that any success lie had had on the station, was due in a large measure to the capable men he had had the good fortune to have under him. Messrs Charles "Ward and William Familton, two of the oldest hands on the station, made very complimentary speeches
jtt praise of their old "boss," and regretted very much that he was so soon to leave th«m. The company was most hospitably entertained ■fey Mr and Mrs Macaulay, and the proceedine« were enlivened by several musical items contributed by Messrs Gould, M'Dougal, and Familton. The happy function was brought Jo » close by the singing of " Auld lang syne."
