OAMARU HIBERNIAN SPORTS.
OAMARU, April 24.
The Oamaru Hibernian Society's sports to-day attracted a. record attendance, the sum of £98 being taken at the gate. Large entries had been received, and competition was keen throughout the afternoon. Following are the results of the principal events: — 75 Yards Handiieap. — Final heat: F. W. Preen, 3£yds, 1 ; W. Crawshaw, lyd, 2 ; G-. M'Ketterick. scr, 3. J. M'Tigue 3yds also started. Won by six inches. Time, 7 2-ssec. There were 19 competitors in this event. 200 Yards Amateur Handicap. — Final heat : R. C. Ongley, 2yds, 2; C. G. Camp, 14yds, 2; A. B. Christie, 7yds, 3. F. W. Ongley 9yds also started. Won by a few inches after a fine race. Tame, 22sec. Sheffield Handicap, 220 yards. Prizes: £15, £1, £3, and £2. — First heat: F. W. Preen, 10yds, 1 ; C. Young, 7yds, '2. Time, 22sec. Second heat- J. M'Tigue. 10yds, 1; T. Hanley, Byds, 2. Time, 21 4-ssec. Third heat: B. Bryan, 11yds, 1; J. Birch, lOyda, 2. Time, 21 4-ssec. Fouith heat: T. Croft, 11yds, 1 ; H. Smart, 6yds, 2. Time, 21 3-ssec. Fiith heat- J. Little, 11yds, 1; H. Richards, 14yds, 2. Tiirne, 22 l-s?ee. Twenty-one competitors started for these heats. First semi-final: T. Croft 1, J. Birch 2. Second semi-final : B. Bryan 1, J. M'Tigue 2. Final heat: T. Croft 1, J. M'Tigue 2, J. Birch 3, B. Bryan 4. Birch and Bryan both fell in the straight, though independently of one another. Bryan fell close to the tape, when he appeared to be winning by a few inches. His fall delayed Croft and allowed M'Tigue to make a dead heat of it; but they agreed io run it off, with the above result. Time in first run, 21£ se c; in second run, 31 l-ssec. 250 Yards Amateur Handicap. — Final heat : C. G-. Camp, 18yd3, 1; J. Curran, 10yds, 2; R. C. Ongley, 3yds, 3. Time, 28 l-ssec. 440 Yards* Handicap.— T. Croft, 11yds, 1; H. Smart, 7yds, 2; L. Broad. syds, 3. Thirteen started. Time, 55sec. 440 Yards Amateur Handicap.— G-. Gunn, 10yds, 1; A. C. Martin, 12yds 2; A. B. Christie, 13yds, 3. Seven started. Time, 54sec. Half-mile Handicap.— W. Pilchei;, 18yds, 1; H. Fleck, 25yds, 2; J. H. Harley, 38yds, 3. Thirteen started. Time, 2inin 6 3-ssec.
