At the Easter meeting there was a large attendance. The weather was showery, with a cold wind. Results: —
Mangaone Stakes, of 300sovs. Six furlongs. —Wet Reef, 7.10, 1; Chivalry, 8.11, 2; Solution, 9.2, 3. Scratched : Kaharoa, To-morrow, and Gawadn. A good race. Won by a length. Time, lmin 17 l-ssec. Dividends, £11 9s and 19s.
Trial Plate, of lOOsovs. Seven furlongs. — Aorangi 1, Whataroa 2, Marseillaise 3. Scratched : Aquilo, Miss Le Riwa, Paper, Bandolier, Blink Bonny, Sir Percival, Mauru, Otarangi. Time, lmin 33 4-ssec. Dividends, £3 2s and £2.
Kawakawa Hurdles, of 200sovs. Two miles. — KillaTney, 10.7, 1; Handsome Rose, 9.0, 2; Defoe, 9.7, 3. Also started: Levant 11.0, Miss King 10.13, Evening 10.0, Kohunui 9.6, Lull 9.0. Time, 3miu 58 4-ssec. Dividends, £2 2s and £1 3s.
Field Cup, of 500sovs. One mile and a-half. —Spoil, 6.7, 1 ; Roseal, 8.2, 2 ; Rapids, 6.13, 3. Scratched : Ghoorka, Black Reynard. Spoil got the lead from the start, and maintained it to the finish, winning by two lengths; Eo-aeal and. .Rapids separated by about a. head. Time, 2min 39sec. Dividends, £9 13s and 15s.
Taonui Hack Hurdles, of lOOsovs. One mile and three-quarters. — Cassiopea, 10.7, 1; Sleepwell, 9.11, 2; Apiti, 9.3, 3. Scratched: Warwick, Domestic, Handsome Rose, and Commonwealth. In the straight Ca&siopea and Sleepwell ran-" side by side. Cassiopea eventually gutting in half a length ahead. Time, 3min 24 4-ssec. Dividends, £2 12s and 15s.
Onepuhi Hack Welter, of lOOsovs. One ir.il p. — Admiral C&rveras, 9.9, 1; Victoria Park, 8.0, 2; Explode, 8.7, 3. Scratched: Kuroki and Commonwealth. A good finish. Won by half a> length. Time, lmin 47 l-ssec. Dividends, £4 8s and £2 9s.
Halcombe Welter, of 200sovs. One mile. — Veneer, 8.12, 1; Ngatarua, 8.9, 2; Contingent, 8.2, 3. Scratched; Chryseis, Toa, Jos Chamberlain, Kapids, and St. Winifred. Time, lmin 45sec. Dividends, £3 7s and 12s.
Ongo Hack, of lOOsovs. Five furlong-s. — Sir Gerarat, 7.7, 3; Swap, 7.7, 2; Jolly Friar, 6.7, 3. Scratched : Spoil, Watatapia, Mereshot. Won easily. Time, lmin 9 4-ssec. Dividends, £2 4s s>nd £2 13s. Coming into the straight Clarebut, riding ECectric Gun, was thrown.
The sum of £16,833 was put through the machine, against £16,427 for the first day last year.
