Hugh M'Ewan applied for a license to cut 'fencing and "firewood over an, area 200 ft 2 50ft in Black -Gully, block X, Crookston district. — at a royalty "of 20s for two months. - The Tuapeka County. Council forwarded an mpplication from the Heridt Public Hall Com- ; «nittee 'for^ quarter of an acre in "the "town of fieriot, fronting Roxburgh street, as a site for ~m public iall. — The 'committee to be requested 'to forward "sketch of the area applied for. -J. R. 'Bartholomew, on behalf of Mr K. V. ■^Thompson, appliedJ-.f-0-r leave to purchase a »mall area in the town of Alexandra, adjoining lections 3 and 4, frock XXXV.— It was decided Vhat as this is Crown land the section should be fenced and offered at auction.
Ranger M'Dpugall reported on the value of ihe flax at Snag Bay, Minaret run, applied for by Sheddan and Begg.— Leave to cut granted for two months at a xayalty of 20s. The Otago and SoutKtand Investment Company -wrote with reference to Run No. 455, Dart district. — Yearly license granted at £2 per 'annum. Ranger O'Neill reported on the value of the flax on tho re.serve above the Evan's Flat -Sredge, applied for by George Brook, and it «ras agreed, to fix the price at £3 instead of £4 10s.
Duncan and MacGregor, on behalf of Peter Gaw, applied for a rehearing of his application for a renewal of his license over the tailings reserve in block XIII, Maniototo district. — "It was decided that, under th& circumstances, the board would not grant a rehearing.
-Ranger 'Mackenzie forwarded an application ~~lrom J. C. M'Bride for a wood-cutter's license over 20 acres on Five-mile Creek, about one mile back from Lake Wakatipu. — Declined.
Ranger- Mackenzie forwarded a letter from John Mills "with reference to section 4, block IX, Tairas district. — Held over till valuation received.
John Christian applied for an occupation lease under " The Mining Districts Land Occupation Act, 1894," over sections 118 and f.28, block IX, MaxuT^enu* district. Messrs Haggitt, Brent, and. Williams, on behalf of ifrs Jane Cole, objected to the granting of Ihe application. — Held over till next meeting. Thomas Fitzgerald, jun., wrote inquiring if section 33, block 11, Catlin's district, could pc leased or sold.—^Referred to ranger for report. Robert Cowie applied for leave to purchase " section 40, block XVIII, Tuapeka East disirict (21 acres). — It was decided to reply that fche board would ba prepared to sell this area Jmder clause 114 of the Land Act, provided the Garden's report was favourable.

IL.i.p. 772, Public Trustee to Amelia Somer* ville,. section 28, block VII, Tokarahi Estate J(Lee and Grave, solicitors}.— Granted. Applications to surrender were dealt with as follows:— O.r.p. 293, Alexander "Little, sections 12, 18, and 25, block XI, Tautuku. distliict. — Declined. L.i.p. 1381, John Waddle, section 51, block XIV, Lower Wanaka district. i-Surrender accepted; -The application "by George Diack to surrender His lease in perpetuity over section 16a, parnego Settlement, was reconsidered, and reJerred to Messrs Tough, and Dallas for report. The board was requested to authorise tbj of Land Revenue tp deal •with the imm of £1449, paid as valuation for improveVnents on Runs 170, 170 a, I7ob, ifOc, 1700, 170s, and 353b ; Beaumont. — The receiver was authorised to pay to Messrs J. and C. W. Rattray £1449 for improvements.
The application to exchange 1-i.p- 860, James 'Gibbons to Robert Little, jun., sections 104, 105, block 11, Ardgowan Estate, was approved. Ths Commissioner reported fig-t ihe iollo^r-

Runs 226 and 11&¥, and sections £6 and 92, block I, St. Bnthans district, 8824 acres; upset £65; valuation £211 12s.— Received ; ranger to revalue improvements. Mrs Elizabeth Wilson applied for leave to purchase land held on pastoral lease, section 11 , block IV, Lauder. — Purchase approved, subjoet to a water raca reservation thiough the section. Edward Wells forwarded a sketch showing portion of land in block VII. Upper Taieri, over which he desired a yearly license. — Declined, as the land is already held under license. With regard to run 6 of 23, Kurow district, it was decided to obtain further report from Messrs Dallas aud Tough. i rr=s
During the progress of a fire 011 Saturday week in Ashburton, at the residence of Mr Stephen Potter, a sum of over £18 in cash was abstracted from a cashbox while the effects were being removed from the house. The cashbox was found empty in the garden next day.
