NASEBY.

In Naseby on Tuesday, 27th ult., the Anglican and Presbyterian Sunday Schools combined and held a monster picnic on the Recreation Ground. The prize fund had been Jibcrally supported by the townspeople, and articles of all, description were in abundance, •so. a lengthy. programme enabled nearly every child 'to , become a winner. The affair was a! great success, the credit for which may b» rtainly attributed to the exertions of the Revs. M'Cosh Smith and Christian and Messrs Pitilpotts, Kirby, Horswell, Marshall, and, M'Laren, who worked haTd to obtain this object. In the evening a concert was held in tha Town Hall in aid. of the funds of the Cricket Club, and" was liberally patronised. The'programme was an excellent one, and included amongst the performers was Miss Browne, of Cliristchurch, whose splendid contralto voice •was much appreciated- - Mesdames Browne and Shaw and Miss Guffie were also in excellent voice, and loudly applauded. Miss Gwen BGddington's performance with Indian clubs wsf» graceful, and well merited the approbation accorded. The gentlemen performers were Messrs H. Ball (of Dunedin), A. Ball, 11 H. Browne, A. E. Brown, F. Christopher, M O'Drisfioll, W. White, F. Laloli, and A. Hanna. and all were honoured by recalls. Mr Hanna's nigger comicalities were very amusing, and kept the audience in a continued roar of merriment. Mrs Cutten performed the dirties of accompanist in a very acceptable manner.
