Competition was very keen for everything under offer, and prices realised showed a slight improvement on those ' paid a fortnight ago, owing to the Australian markets being much firmer, and also on account of the limited supplies that are offering. Although we had no exra prime ox to offer, we obtained over 5d psrlb for several lots, and cleared the whole of our catalogue without any difficulty. Messrs Ritchie, and Co. report having held (their usual fortnightly sale of hides at their stores on Thursday. The attendance of buyers was hardly so large as usual, but, notwithstanding this, competition •waa particularly keen; and prices ruled from par to id per lb above those of last sale. As of late, light-weights were in special request, and we placed a line of cow hides averaging 421b at sd. (Limited) report as follows: — We held our fortnightly sale of hides at our stores, Cumberland and Vogel streets, on Thursday, the 15th inst., when we submitted a, fair-sized catalogue. The attendance of buyers was not as large as usual, but competition was brisk throughout, and late values •were -well maintained, and prices realised, especially for light* hides, show a, decided upward tendency. Our top price for ox was 6d, and for cow hides 4|d. Messrs Stronach, Morris, and Co. report as follows: — We held our fortnightly sale of hides at our stores, Crawford street, on Thursday, 15th inst., when there was a smaller Attendance of buyers present than has lately been the case. Those present, however, were there to do business, and we had a very successful sale. Heavy stout ox hides were on a par with iate xates, but both medium and light veight hides we're higher by at least Jd per lb .Our top price for ox hides was 6d, at •which figure we sold two lines averaging 731b and 671b.
