AUCKLAND SPRING MEETING.

FIRBT DAT — SATTJRDAT, NOVEMBER 8. For the first day of the Auckland Racing Club's spring meeting the weather was showery during tho forenoon. The attendance was moderate. The totalizator receipts for the day were £6561. Mr Bradley's colt Wairiki had a decisive victory in the Guineas, answering to a call upon him at the lawn rails •when his chance did not look brilliant. The win was a popular one. La Valiere, Maro, and Lingard got away at the start, and the first named set the pace till the four-furlong post was passed, where she was joined by Lingard. At the distance Strathavon came with a rattle on the inside, and won eventually •by a length from Zulieka, who was a like distance to the good of La Valiere. Time, lmin, 44 3-ssec. Lavalette got the best of the start, and passing the seven-furlong post was racing two lengths in front of Kelburn, and then cams Wairiki. Through the cutting Lavalette was joined by Northumberland, and Wairiki was a length away. Lavalette was first into the straight and looked likely to score at the main stand, but Wairiki answered gamely to a call upon him, and catching- the leader, won by three pacts of a length, the same distance separating Lavalette and Idas; Kelburn -was fourth. Around the back Dingo was still in front, but through the cutting Cannongate took charge, and was first into the straight. The gelding was challenged by Mars at he last hurdle, but, drawing away, won easily by five lengths; Admiral Hawke was 10 lengths behind Mars. Time, 3m in 24sec. On the totalisator, £673. Tresham got his head in front across the top stretch, but as the distance was reached Golden Rose, who had been lying handy throughout the latter stage of the journey, put in a strong claim, and, taking charge as they swept into the straight, won by a. length from Matamataharakiki.
