AGAINST WAIRARAPA. MASTERTON, August 27.

The Wairarapa-Southland football match, played at Greytown, resulted in a win for Wairarapa by 10 points (a try, a penalty goal, and a potted goal) to 6 points (two tries). The ground wm hear? and the ball

greasy. Southland made the game open, and fine passing rushes by the back* was a feature of the game. Wairarapa. heavier in forwards, relied on hard kicking and fast rushes, while the backs played safely, and used the touch-line. The game was very fast and interesting to the last minute. In the first spell Jacobs scored a try for Southland at the corner flag, E. M'Kenzie equalising the score by kicking a goal from a free kick. In the second spell Rogers scored an easy try for Wairarapa from a long throw-out arid Crawley potted a lucky goal. Christophers scored the visitors' second try from a forward rush, which carried the ball over the line. The last quarter of an hour of the game was exciting. Mr Cargill waa referee.

INTER-COLLEGE MATCH

NELSON, August 31. The football match Christchurch High School v. Xelsou College proved to be the most exciting game of the season. Nelson won by 12 points to 11. Christchurch obtained three tries, one of which was converted. Lawrence secured two, Black converting one, and Williams scored the other. For Nel3on Rogers scored a try, Allan Hamilton obtaisied a goal from a penalty kick, and Foil got two goals from penalty kicks, (he last being within a few seconds of time. The Christchurch backs were the Fuperior, but the Neleon forwards weie the better in the loose
