THE SOUTHLAND TEAM'S TOUR. AGAINST HAWKE'S BAY.

NAPIER. August 30. The Southland team of footballers met Hawke's Bay on the Recreation Ground today in fine weather and on a dry ground. There was a very large attendance. The visitors won by 22 points to 5, defeating Hawke's Bay in every feature of the game. The splendid passing of the Southland backs and the combined rushes of the forwards fairly beat the local men. Hawke's Bay fjcored first, Carlson gefling over, from which M'Vay kicked a goal. After this the Visitors had the game at their mercy. Jacobs (2 tries) Jenkins, Taylor, and Stead (2) scored for the visitors, Jacob* also being very successful at goal-kicking. The Southland team were entertained by ti.e Rugby Union in the evening. They leave for Wellington on Monday.
