WILLIAMSTOWN RACING CLUB

The Easter Monday meeting of the Williamstown Racing Club was held, on tha Moonee Valley course, because the club's own course was damaged by flood waters. There was a spelndid attendance, and the racing was rather interesting. Bad riding lost Mine 9.12 the Hurdle Race. Mine was ridden by P. Cosgrove, who does not shine in the saddle, and after odds of 3 to 1 had been laid on him at the home turn, Coat of Arms 10.8, who ran so peculiarly at BaHaftit, came along and beat him by length. Mvceotis 5.13, improving on her Mentone form, won the Easter Plate, six f\irlong«, very easily, with the favoUTite Niko'.a 7.0 second. Foulsham has had hard luck with Nikola, who has never yet won a race for him, and he has been heavily backed on two or three occasions. The Beach Handicap, of lOflaovs, one mile, was the leading event, and this went to a comparative outsider in Strathjoy 6.10, by Strathmore. whose tender feet were suited by the soft going. The wellbacked Brio 7.1, who is very unlucky, ran second, but Boaz 7.7. thi» favourite, had to be held at the post, and lo3t several lengths when the signal was given. The Tradition filly Lore 9.0 accounted for the Easter Purse, six furlo'ips, bsatinz Jerry 8.2 by a head. W. Ross, who rode Lore, wes nearly caught napping — an o)d trick of his. Lore could have won by half c furlong, but he slowed her down almost to a walk, and Jiifiu iust msuiA&ed to scramble iiojne. The

well-backed Metalloid 8.0 won the Jumpers' Flat Race. He was ridden by C. Moore, whoso first winning ride it was for many a long day. A rank outsider in the Ballarat winner Idyl 7.12 won the Federal Stakes, five furlongs, from the well-backed Captain Towse 8.9.
