MENTONE RACES
The stormy burst having expended itself by Friday, the Menlonc Club had splendid weather for their meeting on Saturday. The going was, however, a trifle soft. Though no single favourite won, every winner waß well backed. The principal event, the Mentone Cup, one mile, went to Man of Honour 8.3, recently acquired from James Redfearn by the West Australian trainer, E. B. M'Kcon. He got a lucky run on the inside (worth, at least, four lengths to him) ns the horses swung into the straight, and won comfortably at the finish from Cluster 7.7 and Rescued 7.2. Man of Honour was sold by Rodfeam at a low price. The son of Trenton hp.s, I believe, something wrong with him internally, and may never stand a strong preparation. Whenever be is caught all right, he is, however, always likely to hold his own in the best of company, and it is quite likely that he will get all right and do well in West Australia. He is, however, an aged horse now. Myosotis 8.8, who is to be included in Barney Allen's team for South Africa, went out favourite for the Mentone Cup, only to urn badly. The going did not appear to suit her. The West Australian jockey, R. Trewartha, rode Man of Honour in the Montone Cup, and he was also on the back of Comedienne 8.3, who took the Trial Handicap earlier in the day. This is the Tostig filly that won at Sandown Park. She appears pretty smart. California put up an excellent performance by carrying 12.2 in the holding track and leading all the way in the Hurdle Race, easily defeating the favourite Mine 9.12. Tim was the third successive win of California, whose condition just now is perfect. When our horses are thoroughly well, it takes a }ot of weight to stop them. Another of the winners at Epsom, The Abbess, was successful. She carried 8.5, and won the Flying Handicap, six furlongs, nicely from Dundee 8.1, while Heiress 8.6, the favourite, ran last. Aloha 11.11, a stable companion of Comedienne, put down a strong favourite in Argara 9.5 in the Steeplechase, and Prince 9.1, by the Caulfield Cup winner Vengeance, won the Welter Handicap, six furlongs. ,
