Sib.,— l wish to warn the unsuspecting publia -against -those who - advertise that their irrrn. doesmot put mining properties on the market without having first prospected the ground themselves and are assured of its richness. i Now, to the uninitiated this seems fair enough; but it is not so. It is a delusion and a snare, as many have found out to their cost. The mode usually adopted by these company floaters is to procure a set of boring rods and put on their own man to prospect, and th& reports of the results are in most cases very rosy; but my experience of the boring rods in prospecting for gold is that they are a fraud. You can make them prove whatever you want to. But there is no occasion for boring rods on the flats about the Mataura district, foir the ground as a rule is only about 7ft .to 16ffe deep, and can easily be prospected by anyordinary digger right to the bottom, the stuff from the holes cradled out, and the exact results obtained. But this is too severe a test for the company promoters : _ they prefer the Tods.
