THE WAREATEA CLAIM. TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, — Having had a number of inquiries from Dunedin and elsewhere re the Wareatea Gold • Dredging Company's claim, I thought it best to send the Otago Daily Time's a line, as -by so doing other shareholders like myself would be benefited. Having heard of the prospects obtained there and rumours abroad that it was - a beach claim, similar to the Coast leads, I determined io see for myself before speculating in any shares. On reaching the claim my im- " pressiohi were most favourable. The ' river, a. fairly large stream, runs through the centre of it, and is joined'by the Fairdown Creek. Both, the streams have evidently carried a rich deposit of gold down from the terraces above. There was no difficulty in obtaining a prospect

- siear the.surface. The gold is both coarse and j • nine, and on inspection shows it has not travel- i : led far. The most part of the wash i& good, ' coarse gravel, and should be easily '"treated with a. dredge. ■ Having spoken to a number of old miners who worked there in the early days "ihey say they are sure that it will prove a jich c claim. I 'only wish the Dunedin shareholders* lad been able to do as I and others have done — go and see for themselves. All who did so, like myself, took up a large number of shares <Dn their return. — I am, ,etc, \ Pearson Stubbs. j .Westport, November 20. J
