Notes from Cromwell.
{Feom Oue Own Correspondent.!' CROMWELL, November 15. The weather is more settled, and the riverg on the downward tendency. I heaT that the inspector of mines has notified the master of one of the almost completed dredges that he must not start till he has a certificated engineer. The rule re engineers' is to be enforced after January 1. The Hartley and Eiley dredge was repairing last week, but is dredging-agaiu. The Upper Magnetic is not yet ready to start, not having all appliances. November 16. The pontoons of the Gentle Annie -were successfully launched on Wednesday, and are quite' close, there being no leakage whatever. The Magnetic is shifting down to tlie foot of her claim, the drift running too strong at the mouth of the goige to admit of dredging at high, water. The Eanfurly is still repairing. The Kelly and Capey pontoons are getting well forward. The rim of the screen for the Alpine Consols having arrived, Mr Mouat and his staff are now on her again, and expect to he done as soon as all the screen and tables have been done. Preparations are being made for putting machinery on the Great Central. The Junction Electric is now dredging in mid-stream, taking a cut across the river.
