LAND BOARD.

The weekly meeting of the Otago Crown Lands Board, held on Wednesday, was attended by Chief Commissioner Maitland (in the chair) and Commissioners Clark, Dalla3, Duncan, and Kirkpatrick. Ranger Mackenzie reported on the application of John Chalmers for a license to occupy the reserve round the Peninsula, block- 11, Kawarau district, fronting sections 3, 4, and 5. — Area to be included in present license on the understanding that there is to be no- interference with roads or miners. James Prentice was granted a yearly license at a rental of 5s over part of the foreshore at Shag Point, block 111, Moeraki district. Hiigh Boss was granted a yearly license, conditionally on his keeping the gorse cut, over 20 acres of the mining reserve in block VI, Tuapeka West district. — The rental was fixed at 10s. The application of J. J. Gibson, on behalf of Jas. Cavanagh,-for a license to occupy 2 acres of the mining reserve, in block XX, Tuapeka West district, was referred to the ranger for report. William Hall was granted a yearly license over section 64a, block XVIII, Tuapeka East district, at a rental of- 10s, conditional on the gorse being kept down. -David Brodie was granted, a yearly license at a rectal of 203 over about 17 acres of the mining reserve, block VIII, Shotover district, south of section 40. Murray, Roberts, and Co. wrote requesting an alteration in the boiindary between run No. 213 c and section 1, block 111, and sections 1 and 2, block VI, Sutton district, in order to make it a practicable fencing boundary. — The chief surveyor wa,s instructed to have the line laid off and surveyed a? toon as convenient. J The application of E. L. M'Latehie for section 17, block 11, Catlins district, as rural land waa approved. The following applications for rural land on occupation with right to purchase were also approved: — Charles Lockhart, sections 67 to 70 and 72, block ' I, Blackstone district; John Campbell, section 24, block V, Glenomaru; John Harris, sections 32 to 37, block VIII, Crookston ; Wm. Christie, section 18, block V, Woodland district. The following applications for rural land on lease in perpetuity were also approved: — P. B. Bolt, sections 32 to 35, block I, Upper Wakatipu; Sarah Bolt, section 36, same block; David Miller, tections 11 and 12, block V, Woodland district. The application of Cha-rles Brenssell to transfer section 11, block XII, Maniototo district, to Mary Charlotte Howell was declined. Transfers were approved as follows . — Johanna- Coile to Sinclair Andrews, section 20, block XI, Manioloto; Jas. S. Vial to John Logan, section 46, block VII, Glenomaru; official assignee- in the estate of E. L. Chaffey to Margaret .Robertson, sections 4 and 4a, block VIII, Tokorahi estate; John Porter to J. M'Gimpsey, sections 3 and 12, block IV, Kurow; W. Barnetson 'to C. G. Mountney, section 3, block 111, Tarras district. The following applications 'for surrender of leases were referred to the rangers for a re-port:—-J. G. Read^ section 14, block VI,-Wood-land; J. W, Tapp, section 10, block 111, Catlins; Emily A. Hill, section 16, block VII, Woodlands. • Applications to complete purchase of land held under deferred payment license were appioved as follows: — John Brook, section 69, block 111, Tuapeka West; S. A. Lowis, section 77, block I, Blackstone. A. L. Herdman wrote on behalf of James Dugan in regard to a license to occupy sections 42 and 45, block I, Naseby district. — It was decided that the license should date from January 1, 1899.
