Aueust 2. — The ordinary meeting ol theEoad
Board -w*s held at the board's.office.on-Satur-day last, being attended by Messrs W. Dickson (chairman), Hinkley, Macau drew, Bacon, Sea ton, and North. Two tenders were received for metal on the Main and District roads, Papanui, but, as they were considered too high, ' neither was accepted. The clerk was instructed to write thanking Mr Foster for putting a lamp on the culvert that collapsed opposite the Portobello Post Office. Mr J. Muir wrote asking permission to place some earth on M'Georges street, Seaton. — Granted, subject to the inspec- j tor's supervision. The striking of a rate of Jd in the pound was confirmed, and Mr Porterfield was appointed collector Drs Hodges and Borrie wrote stating that there were two cases of scarlet fever in the board's district, and that it rested with the board to take action in the matter. The Chairman stated that when he received the doctors' letters he took every precaution to have each house disinfected, and it lay on the board's shoulders to appoint an inspector. Mr Raynbird was duly appointed. A circular was received from the Dunedin Suburbs' Reserves Committee, requesting the assistance of the board towards the improvement of the Anderson's Bay road. It was resolved that, as their finances were not strong, ,the board decline to contribute. Mr H. Kellas appeared, to ask the board to have the metal which was broken and lying in the quarry so long put on the road. — The inspector to attend to the matter as soon as the weather permits. The Otago Heads Road Board wrote asking the board to have the road formed opposite sections 45, 46, and 47, block 11, Portobello Bay survey district. It was resolved 'that the board adhere to its former resolution, and take no action in the matter. The balance sheet, ■signed by the Auditor-general, was adopted. ■ It was resolved that £4 be spent -on poisoned grain for the destruction of small birds. Accounts amounting to £81 15s 3d were passed for payment. The toll collector reported that £15 8s 6d was collected for the month, including £1 14s 9d for bicycles. Owing to pressure on our space we are compelled to hold over a number of country letters.
