OMNIUM GATHERUM

A trial shipment of sheep was sent recently from L'chuca to Melbourne en route for South Africa. Mr W. Grant, assistant at Island D.F., has been appointed oheesemaker to Seaward Downs Factory. T. Harrison). Dunedin. A correspondent informs the Southland Times that a my 1 1 an out fire occurred at Mr Richard Munro's place, Waituna, on the evening of the Ist in&t., about half-paht 9 o'clock. The properly consumed comprised a large new bar, shearing bhed and pens, threshing mill, a lot of tools, 'and about four tons of oaten s-hoaves. Mr Miraro was out nol 10 minutes before the fire was discovered, and no fire or sign of anything being wrong was to be seen thpn. The door leading in to where the sheaves were — and where the fire started — was closed at half-past 6, but was found open wiien these about went to the barn to try to save something. No one belonging to the place had been near the barn since 8 o'clock that morning. Nothing was paved, and there was no insurance, so Mr Munro is a heavy loser.
