RONGAHERE.
July 27. — Snow, snow, beautiful snow! Looking away across this" cold, white world of ours to where the giant peaks of the Blue Mountains seem to pierce the azure blue of heaven, one might almost fancy himßeli in some polar region, so white and cold and silent it all is. All outdoor work is at a complete standstill. Even tiie digestive organs of some of out poor dumb animals have stopped operations from want of material to work upon. Saw Milling.— Messrs Duffy, Cochrane, and Keppel have made application for a saw-mill-ing license over an area of 200 acres near the head waters of the Black Cleugh stream, where there's an abundance of good timber to be had. In the event of Clydevale being cut up, which is looked upon round, this way as being almost a certainty, this enterprise will prove a good thing for the district as well as for the promoters. . Dredging. — Another dredging claim has been pegged out on the river. The River Board intend opposing all claims in this locality. So far only one has been granted, and. the. board propose testing this case in the Supreme Court. If they do it will probably be a case oi the " lawyer and the oyster." Better for them to come to some arrangement with the dredgers as to the disposal of the tailings. Roads and Bogs.— Our County Council intend doing big things in Pomahaka Riding this year. No less than £3000 to be spent in that district! Pity our worthy representative would not take a look at some of our roads occasionally. There are a few matters which require looking into in this direction. But taking one consideration with another, we cannot complain just at present, as all around it s nothing but BOOM! BOOM! BOOMI Our dredging boom is booming We are booming right along ; Fact everything is booming, So I'll boom a booming song. Our county's started booming:' Going to boom 3000 pounds To boom up Pomahaka ' And the farmers on the Downs. Sawmills have started booming — There are applications made For the right to cut oui timber > To boom the building trade. The fur trade has been booming, But it's very nearly bust; For this booming sort of weather Fills the trapper with disgust. Clydevale will soon be booming, If it only gets a show, For Tuapeka's booming farmers Say they mean to make it go. We will boom! boom! boom! Till we boom away our dust, Then the echoes from our booming Shall be bust! bust! bust!
