HIGH-CLASS STOCK FOR SOUTH AMERICA.

That New Zealand-bred pedigree cattle and sheep are in favour with the estancieros of Argentina, may be inferred from the fact that the two shipments made last year by Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co., of Dunedin, are being followed by another of a rather more extensive and varied character, by the same inni. On this occasion the S.S. and A. Company's fine cargo steamer Matatua (Captain Holmes, R.N.R.) has been chosen to carry the stock; and as very complete preparations have been made to make the stock comfoi table, and to ensure its safe carriage to Monte Video, it is confidently expected that every animal will be landed in good condition, and ,do credit to the breeders from whose herds and flocks' the stock has been selected. The former shipments included Shorthorn cattle and Ronmey Mars"h sheep ; m the present one the Shorthorn is replaced by the Polled Angus breed of cattle, and the Komney Marsh sheep by the merino. The second of these changes is, of couise, due to the great advance in the value of merino wool, which has taken place during the current year, and it also points to the fact that our South American rivals are finding it more profitable to work with the finer woolled sheep, in some localities at all events. Taking the cattle first, these — nine in all — consist of six magnificent Hereford bulls, four of them bred by Mr James Stuckey, owner of the Te Rangituinau herd (Wairarapa), and two by Messrs Buchanan and Levett, of Mayficld, Feilding. The Polled Angus bulls are also magnificent specimens of this justly famous breed, one of them being from the New Zealand and Australian Land Company's herd at Totara, and two from the herd of the Hon. Mathew Holmes, M.L.C., Castlerock Estate. The following are the full particulars of the cattle — viz.: — -'
