Country Sales. — Tho New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report having held their usual fortnightly Bftl© at Balcluth* on Friday, 7th inst., when there was a full attendance of farmer* present. Business, however, was not ag brisk as they should have wished, notwithstanding which, howovor, most lines sold at prices satisfactory to vendors. They quote pricea a3 follows: Breeding ewes, 7s Gd to 9s ; four-tooth eyres and wethers from 10s Id to lls Gd; store lambs to 7s 6d. Good clasfloa of cattle sold fairly woll. Three-year-old steers to £4 ss , two-year-old steers and heifers to £2 2s. Pigs, as usual, wero keenly competed for at late rates. Thoy iilso held their usual fortnightly sale at Milton on Tuesday, 11th inst., when they had a. large yarding of shoep, which, considering the unpleasant day, wero fairly competed for. Four-tooth eyres eoid to lls; full-mouth do, from 8s 9d io 10s 3d; store wethers from 8s 9d to 12s; store lambs to 7s; four-tooth Border Leicester rams to £Q 2s. Dalgety and Co. (Limited) report having held their fortnightly sale at Balclutha on Friday, 7th inst., when they yarded 1658 sheep, 81 rams, and G6 head of cattle. For good crossbred lambs and wethers, suitable for turnips, there was a good . demand, and fair prices r.-erc realised. Crossbred ewes, however, did not meet with much inquiry, and a considerable number of those offered wero passed at auction, but some afterwards were sold privately. Rams : Tho demand for these was evidently limited, and qtiite one-half of the entire entry ha-d to ba turned out unsold. Border Leicester.? were the only breed saleable, and those that wero sold realised from lg to Cl\gß, the latter price being obtained for a pcn 1 of 10 rams bred and offeree! by Mr James Grey, of Milburn. Romneys wero almost unsaleable, and only a very few found purchasers. Cattle were exceedingly slow of sale, and the greater number of those yarded were turned out unsold. Crossbred wethers brought from lOrt to 128; crossbred lambs, Vs Gd to 8s; crossbred ewes (young), 10s to lls 6d ; crossbred ewes (aged), 7s to 9d ; two-year-old steers, £2 15s to £3; two-year-old heifcra. £2 to- £2 ss. Tho same firm also report having held a sal; of store shoep at Outram on Tuesday, the lltli inst., when they yarded and sold 1186 sheep. Owing, no doubt, to the very wet weather, (here was only a very small attendance, but, as nearly all those present were purchasers, all the "sheep offered met with a good sale at the following prices .—Crossbred lambs to 8s Id; crossbred ewes, 7s Gd to 8s Wool and Sheepskins.— No sale 3 were^ held this week. . Rabbitskins. — A good demand is experienced for all reaching this market, but as is usual at this time of the year, the quantity arriving is very small, and is comprised principally of summer and spring skins. At Mondays auction thero was keen competition, &n<3 all sorts sold at improved valuesi. Best sorts realised 9cl to lid; summer and inferior springs, 5d to 7ci; suckers and runners, Id to 3d perlb. jjides. — Market remains the same; prices for best being 3d to 3Jd ; extra heavy, to 4d ; light, 2id to 2sd; inferior, Ijd to 2Jd per lb. Tallow and Fat.— The supply is still small and values remain the same as quoted in last report. There is inquiry for mixed tallow. He quote- Prime rendered, 13s Gd to 15s psr cwt; mixed, lls 6d to 12s 6d; inferior, 10s to lls; rough fat, 8s to lls. . Grain.— Wheat: The market is practically unchanged. Milling wheat of medium quality has beer) more plentiful and sales of this class rather more difficult to effect. The demand is chiefly for prime quality— velvet preferred,— and quotations for sorts meeting the above fUscription are well maintained. Fowl wheat meets fair demand, and if whole and sound, is readily quitted at quotations, which are: For prime milling velvet, 2s 4d cO 2s Gd per bushel, sacks in; prime milling Tuscan, etc., -2s 3d io 2b 5.1; medium milling, 2s Id to 2s 2id; fowl whiut (whole), Is lid to '2s, fowl wheat (broken and discoloured), Is 8d to. ls lOd. Oats. Consignments are coming forward more freely. More business is now being done for export, but at prices that can scarcely be considered satisfactory to producers. Shippers, however, have little difficulty in tilling, their orders at slightly i educed values, and in view of forward quotations from, other ports any decided improvement in the immediate future cannot be looked for. Exporters' attention is confined almost exclusively to sparrowbills, but there is also fair inquiry for Long Tartars and duns fit for seed. Quotations are : Long Tartars and seed sorts,. Is 4id to Is 6d per bushel, sacks extra; prime milling, Is 4d to Is 4Jd ; good to best feed, Is 3d to Is 3^d ; medium and inferior, Is 2d to Is 2id. Barley The demand during the week

has been fairly steady at late rates'. Discoloured lots, however, are more difficult to place, bat for prime bright malting there is good inquiry* Feed sorts aro neglected. Potatoes.—Tho quantity coming forward ifl ample for present requirements and late quotas tions ara barely maintained. Quotations are: 1 i Best Dements, 40s to 42s 6d per ton, sacks in; extra prime, to 45a; best kidneys, 30s to 35a. Chaff.—A good demand has been, experienced during tho week, and all prime oaten sheaf coming forward has "found ready buyers. Stocks aro not heavy and good quality (particularly old chaff) continues to meet -with strong inquiry. Quotations aTe: Best paten sheaf, £2 12s 6d to £2 15s per ton, saoks extra; medium to good, £2 to £2 10s.
