The yardings of all sorts of stock at Adj diugton ivere small, including 3490 fat sheep I and lambs, 2900 store sheep, 480 head cattle, anil 492 pigs. Business throughout was brisk, ; and nearly every line was sold. There was a distinct advance in fat and store sheep. • Fat Cattle. — With the exception of one line of good steers, the 209 head fat cattle were ' mostly light-weights, with a good deal of inferior quality. Best beef brought 18s per 1001b, but other sorts dragged slightly, but i maintained late rates— viz., 12a to 17s Gd. j There was a rathoi, better demand for store cattle, and a good clearance was made. Fat Sheop. — Very few good lines of freezing i sheep coming to hand kept export buyers off i {lie market, kut the local trade came in, and • prices firmed slightly. Some Chatham Island wethers, large framed, coarse sheep, all of which were aged, sold^at from 10s Gd to 12s lid. Butchers' ewes met with keep competition, and rose from Is 3d to 2s per head; prime wethers realised from 15s ' *o 16s 4d ; good, 13s to 14s 6d ; inferior, 11s 9d to 12s 6d , best heavy-weights (butchers' ewes), 14s , to 15s, and up to 16s 3d for extra prime ; good, 12=! 6d co 13s Gd; and others, 10s to 12s. ! Fat Lambs. — The smallest yarding of fat ■ lambs for the season met a good sale, and • prices for good advanced 6d to 9d per head. Better sorts brought 10s 6d to 12s Gd ; butchers, 9s to 103. . Store .Sheep. — Breeding ewes and turnip sheep and lamb 3 showed a slight advance, and j all changed hands. Forward wothers, 12s lOd ;to 13s 9d ; others, 10s Sd to 11s id , mixed i two-tootha, 9s 6d to 13a, breeding ewes, two; ! tooths, lls Gd, two and four-tooth, "11s Id; four, six, and eight-tooths, 9a to lls sd, sound mouthed, 9a Id to 9s lid: full-mouthed, 7s Id to 9s; lambs, 8s to 10s 9d. j Pigs. — The presence of a buyer ior Dunedin caused a good sale of bacon pigs at 3Jd to 4d
per lb, while porkers ran to 4Jd and sd. Stores of all classes sold well — a line from the North Island averaging 40s a head. Per head baconers fetched 45s to 63s 6d; porkers, 35s to 455; good stores, 35s to 42s 6d; smaller, 25s to 32s 6d; weaners, 13s 6i to 17s 6d; and suckers, 7s 6d to 12s 6d.
