SODA CAKE.
Half a pound of butter, lib flour, a pinch of salt, £lb picked and dried currants, Jib sugar, half a grated nutmeg, a teaspoonful of carbonate of soda in a teacupful of warm milk, threo eggs, Jib candied peel. Rub the butter into 'the flour, add a pinch of salt, then add the sugar, currants, peel, and nutmeg, mix thoroughly ; dissolve the soda in the milk, add to it the eggs, beat well together, then mix with the flour, etc. ; butter a tin, pour in the cake, and bake immediately from one and a half to two hours in a steady oven.
