CAIRO, August 8.
Independent tribes along the Blue Nile a,ve negotiating terms Avith Sir H. H. Kitchener for occupying the country. An Egyptian battalion marched from Suakim across the desert to Berber in 18 days. They covered 61 miles in one day.
August 9.
It is reported here that Omdurman will be bombarded in three day*. The Avails surrounding that town are 3ft thick. Osman Digna occupies an entrenched position on the right bank of the White Nile, between Omdurman and Khartoum, where a large force of dervishes are concentrated.
August 13
The 21st Lancers (Lieutenant-colonel Martin) have crossed the Atbara River and will lead the Soudan expedition, which comprises 20,000 infantry, 40 guns, and 1500 cavalry under the command of Major-general Kitchener.
Intense heat and sandstorms are being experienced, but the health of the forces comprising the expedition is good.
