THE HOOLEY DISCLOSURES.

ROME, August 11. The Pope is suffering from an internal chill, find his condition is reported to be serious.

BERLIN, August 14.

The Cologne Gazette states that the Pope is unable to work or write, and his life is gradually ebbing

LONDON, August 11. In the course of his denial of the Hooley charges, Mr Praed produced a letter in which Hooley offered him £35,000 and £5000 a year to act as his confidential adviser.

Earl De la Warr, Mr Martin D. Kucker (Hooley's partner), a man named Broadley (who, Hooley stated, had received £10,000 from him for managing the press), and another named Bradshaw are being charged with contempt for endeavouring to induce Hooley to alter his evidence with regard to the causes of his bankruptcy

During the examination of Hooley in bankruptcy Mr Justice Wright was asked to commit Earl De la Warr and Messrs Rucker, Broadly, and Broadbent for contempt in asking Hooley to amend his evidence. Hooley produced Earl De la Warr's compromising letter. The case was adjourned. Several persons denied before the Registrar Hooley's statement* of bribery.

Hooley thrashed young Lawson Johnston in the street with a walking stick for threatening to make an exposure in regard to Mrs Hooley's funds if further revelations were made concerning his father and Bovril. The Registrar threatened to prosecute Johnston, but accepted an apology.
