Notes from Auckland.
Auckland, April 7. A deputation from the Chamber of Mines waited on the Premier on matters connected, with the mining industry in which they desired to see some change made. The laatteis brought v under the Premier's attention included the " annual 'license fee, the present mode of levying the gold duty, the high rates of rent now chargeable Ou. the Coromandel Peninsula, the advisability of g'ving the warden power to grant protection for 12 months instead of four months . as at present, the question of "jumping" (so that no claim could be forfeited except at the instance of the Government), aud other matters. The Waihi-Silverton crushed 850 tons for 8520z, valued at £1160. The Waitekauri Company during the pabtr month crushed 1675 tons for bullion valued at .£4760. THE CROMWELL MINE. Our Cr.'inweli correspondent telegraphs :—": — " The Cromwell tributers got an, Easter cake of 65')oz. They had 100 tons at gras**, which yielded 300oz.
