Messrs Samuel Orr and Co., Stafford street, report for the week ending July 14 as follows :— They are still without rain to the north of us, and matters are beginning to look serious, as not only is ploughing stopped, but the seed sown is rotten, and will have to bs sown over again. Oats. — Our market is not so bright as it ought to bs or has been at this period of the year, and shippers will. ODly buy for actual orders, speculation being out of- the question with them. Of •course this ia not to be wandered at when you take into consideration the reporta of the recent drought on, the. other side having completely broken up. An exchange says of it : — " The downpour has been so general that the drought ippears to have at last completely broken up, the lowupour during the past mouth being an average

of from 3in to 6in throughout the producing districts. Wheac crop 3 are all springing vigorously, and abouutif ul harvest is anticipated. Grass, too, is verdant. Stockowners are jubilant at the outlook, ploughing and seeding iv full swing again, and despite all the drought it is probable that a larger area of crop will be sown than was last season." Wheat. — The market is keeping up, and recent quotations seem to be maintained. Barley.— We have sold Beveral lines during the week at recent quotations. Chaff. — Market over -supplied, and prices dropped 53 to 7s 6d a ton. Prime sells up to £1 ; and medium £3 5s to .£3 12s 6d. Potatoes. — Demand good and prices hardened a little. Northerns sell at £3 10s ; southern, £3 ss. Seeds. — Ryegrass : Notwithstanding it being early in the season, a few good sales have taken place, while prices are keeping fairly good, though not so high as in some previous seasons. We quote : Machine-dressed Poverty Bay, up to 6s ; and local machine-dressed, from '.Is to 3s 6d ; extra heavy, up to 4s 3d. Cocksfoot has come down as English market no good, and for heavy seed we quote 4Jd, and oidinary 3Jd to 4d. Timothy is cheaper than for some years. Ciovi-rs : Prices for white are easier on basis of last year's quotations, as also are cowgra^s and alsyke. We would ask purcha&ei's to send for our simples and quotations, as these will compare most favourably with aoy on the market. FRUIT AND PRODUCE REPORT. Cheese : Old factory, 3d to 4d ; prime, 4il to 4-Jd. Pigs, 3Jd to 4d (wanted). Poultry : We receive any day for sale. Onions : Locally-grown, £8 to £9. Honey, 4d. Potatoes : Derwents— Northern, £3 lOi to £3 153; southern, £2 15s to £3 10s ; seed kidneys. £3 10a to £4. We receive consignments of grain, fruit, farm and dairy produce of all descriptions. Highest price 3 realised. Raspbsrry canes (in any quantity), 5s per 100. "Montauk" for scaly and woolly blight, in pint?, quarts, gallon and four- ' gallon tins. FRUIT AND PRODUCE REPORT. The Otago Fruit and Produce Agency (agents^for the Teviot and Alexandra Fruitgrowers' Company, Limited), 182 Princes street south, Dunedin, report for week ending July 14 as follows :—: — Fruit.— Oranges : D.E. Tahiti, 10* per case ; Sydney, 3s to 8s per case; mandarins 9s to 10s per case. Lemons : 9s to lls per case. Apples : Hobart S.P.M.'s 8s to 12s per case ; S.T.P., F.C., and S.P., 8s to 10a per case; Canterbury cooking, 2d to 2Jd per lb. Bananas (ripe) : 2d to 2Jd per lb. Cocoanuts, 9a per sack. Peanuts, 2d to 2id per lb. Produce.— Pigs (wanted), SJd to 4d per lb. Potatoes : Derwents, £3 16s to £3 15s per ton ; kidneys, £3 10s to £4 per ton.
